Animation in Webcomics

I've been discussing animation in webcomics in another forum. Most comic creators were against any animation in comics. Now, I add animation to the strips to make them look better. It takes me an extra hour (sometimes more) to animate a comic. The problem is if my readers don't like the animation why even mess with it. So, here's your chance to tell me what you think I should do. Is the animation taking away from the comic, or is it adding to the comic?

Nurby running on the treadmill was kind of awesome. I think it looks cool.

It depends if you ever want to sell a book of your stuff. Books seem expected by fans so I avoid animations in my comics.

I thought about that when I started. I save a hi res version of the comic without animation for print.

as an artist, do you create for you, or for the viewer?
I like it, but if you like it, that's what matters.
Though... I suppose there'd be no one coming to the site viewing the comic. :/

I agree - it depends

As long as the comic still "works" without the animation, I think that is all that matters.
I usually read your comic on my i-phone and the animations aren't visible, but of course the comic is still good.
I was delighted when I used my desktop one day and saw the animation, though.
The real question is whether you want to spend the extra time doing it. Only you know know the value of your time.
